Political gamesmanship by Obama

Commentary
Anna Liisa Covell

It looks like a case of political gamesmanship at it's finest by creating the atmosphere to have mob-rule opinion take over in a Presidential election.

What better way to make the candidate look like a hero with his followers than to attack the decision before it becomes public, just in case it's not favorable.

If you're wondering what decision - it's the Supreme Court decision on President Barrack Obama's health care law due out in June.

Obama has come out swinging by saying, "a Supreme Court rejection would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.”

Apparently, three branches of government are two too many for Obama.  He has taken it upon himself to attack 200-plus years of legal scholars who believe the decisions of the United States Supreme Court.

As a law professor, Obama has conveniently side-stepped the very case that made the Supreme Court  the arbiter between the President and Congress to decide what laws are constitutional in America.  In the case of Marbury v. Madison, the judicial branch gained equal power with the executive and legislative branches of government in our country.  Thus, a system of checks and balance was born to protect our Constitution.

Reverence should be shown to all nine Justices on the Supreme Court especially from our President and our Congress.  But Obama has quite literally taken it upon himself to be the judge and jury of decisions made by SCOTUS.  He openly attacked members of the Supreme Court for their decision on Citizens United vs. FEC  in a State of the Union Address.

Obama's public attacks are unprecedented for a sitting president - unprecedented because he knows SCOTUS doesn't get involved with political mudslinging.  The high court just has way too much class which is something Obama seems to lack in his character.

Discrediting the messenger has become the hallmark of the Obama administration.  They are quick to blame others without ever standing up for the truth in our country.  It's sad when the President needs to stoop so low to gain public favor.

Federal Appeals Court Judge Jerry Smith called the President's words into question by demanding the Justice Department respond to his court with a 3-page brief - a brief explaining the position of the Department of Justice and the President's opinion about the ability of judges to determine the constitutionality of laws.

It looks like Judge Smith just called check-mate to Obama's political gamesmanship to sway public opinion about the ability of SCOTUS.
